Background: The Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) is a federal grant which requires that spending be used in specific areas. Part of the Fairfax County Public Schools spending plan identifies funding to be used for Unfinished Learning and Student Academic and Social, Emotional, Mental Health (Wellness) Needs. Schools have been given funding allocations to support the academic and wellness needs of students. Schools are required to create plans in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Wellness highlighting the strategies they will use to support these areas using their ESSER III funding. These strategies are shown below.
English Language Arts |
Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in English Language Arts. |
Goal: By spring of 2023, 100% of eligible students in grades 7-11 will meet their growth target on the Reading Inventory and 70% of all eligible students in grades 7-11 will score proficient or higher on the Reading Inventory. |
Strategy 1 Students will engage in authentic learning tasks which promote student-centered learning. |
Strategy 2 Students will access interventions for additional time and support to be successful with essential learning by grade and content area. |
Strategy 3 Students will have opportunities to demonstrate proficiency through balanced assessments. |
Mathematics |
Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in Mathematics. |
Goal: By spring of 2023, 100% of all math students (Math 7 - AFDA) will meet their growth target on the Math Inventory and 70% of all math students (Math 7 - AFDA) will score proficient on the Math Inventory. |
Strategy 1 Students will engage in authentic learning tasks that promote student-centered learning and thinking strategies. |
Strategy 2 Students will access interventions for additional time and support to be successful with essential learning by grade and content area. |
Strategy 3 Students will have multiple opportunities prior to assessments to demonstrate skill and understanding of mathematical concepts. |
Wellness |
Outcome: Ensure students feel safe, included, and supported in the school environment. |
Goal: By the end of the 2022-2023 school year, our school will utilize school-wide strategies to decrease chronic absenteeism by 5% from 14% to 9%. Our school will institute weekly Advisory Lessons, activities, and wellness strategies to effectively build relationships and teach skills surrounding specific RAM Values. These skills will advance peer and classroom-teacher relationships, feelings of school belonging, and lower levels of challenging feelings. |
Strategy 1 Students will gain perspective in cultural responsiveness, equity, relationship building, and executive functioning skills through a variety of school programming. |
Strategy 2 A healthy environment will be created in the school in the physical building, physically, emotionally, and socially, to support all aspects of the well-being of the whole child, staff, and families. We will engage the Robinson Community (Students, staff, and community) in wellness activities to increase social-emotional skills, build relationships and decrease stress and anxiety. We will also work to provide a safer learning environment. |
Strategy 3 Use MTSS Processes and data to identify students who require Tier 2&3 interventions. |
Portrait of a Graduate (POG) |
Outcome: All students will complete a POG Presentation of Learning (POL) by 2025-26. |
Goal: By the end of SY 2022-2023, 100% of students will report on a student survey that they: - know how to create a personal goal - have created a personal goal this year - have made progress toward their goal - and can describe how feedback helps them to make progress toward their goal Additionally, 100% of 10th grade students will complete a MYP personal project in which they will reflect on how they have grown as creative and critical thinkers. |
Strategy 1 Students will continue to engage with and reflect on their Portrait of a Graduate (POG) attributes and skills. |
Strategy 2 Students will engage in inquiry-based learning opportunities which elevate student's voices. |
