Boys Basketball Starts Up

The Robinson varsity basketball team held their team tryouts this past week, making their final cuts on Tuesday. Second year head coach Ben Gildea had several tough decisions to make. In total, 14 players were selected to the roster, 6 of which were seniors. We spoke to returning starter Sergio Delgado about his thoughts and expectations for the upcoming season. “Coach Gildea is implementing a more fast paced offense this year, which will help us because we’ll be able to control the pace of the game. The young talent on the team, such as sophomore Ben Lajoie, will help the starters in practice and bring effort and grit to the court. I expect a district final appearance this year.”

With 8 returning players from last year’s roster and 3 returning starters, the expectations are fairly high in a district which lost a fair amount of senior talent. Looking at the district, Lake Braddock and Fairfax appear to be fairly tough, returning a good amount of their starting lineup. Even though the Rams only lost two seniors last year, who were two key players, Greg Rowson and Anthony Douglas. Together they combined for over 35 PPG and 25 RPG. If the Rams hope to be successful, they will need players to step up and fill this lost production.
