This year we had students partaking in Public Forum, Student Congress, and Lincoln-Douglass. The students who decided to be competitive and partook in WACFL tournaments were:

  • Public Forum
    • The team of Haiden Price (Freshman) and Sadie Thibodeau (Sophomore)
      • Placed 5th in October at JV level
      • Placed 6th in December at JV level
      • Competed in February at JV level
  • Student Congress
    • Vanessa Wu (Senior)
      • Ranked 6th in respective chamber in October
    • Chloe Cooper (Junior)
      • Competed in December
    • Feeman Annas (Junior)
      • Ranked 6th in respective chamber in October
      • Competed in November
  • Lincoln-Douglass
    • Christian Han (Senior)
      • Competed at Varsity level in October
    • Xavier Day (Freshman)
      • Placed 1st in the Novice level in November, which automatically bumped him into JV level for the remainder of the year
      • Placed 6th at JV level in February
    • Sophia Adriano (Junior)
      • Competed at Novice level in November

Those that placed in the top 6 or were an additional qualifier at one of the tournaments that ran from October – February were then eligible for WACFL Metrofinals which were held the first two weekends of March (LD the Friday night and Saturday the first weekend, and PF/Congress same days the second weekend). Our public forum team decided to compete, and they ended the weekend with a 3-3 win/loss record and end up in 19th out of 30 teams competing at the JV level.

This past Saturday, was the VHSL Occoquan Region Debate Tournament. We had 2 students compete, and with the addition of more schools into our region, it was a little harder for us to maintain our ongoing runner-up placement from the past few years.

Chloe Cooper placed 9th in student congress and will be advancing to the VHSL 6CD Super Regions the first weekend of April, while Xavier Day placed 5th in Lincoln-Douglass and is the 1st alternate should someone not be able to compete.

If you are a high school student who might be interested in joining our team, we practice on Thursday’s and will start back up after spring break.
