Inclusive Schools Week Celebrated

students-doing-disability-simulationRobinson Partnership students celebrated Inclusive Schools Week by conducting disability simulations based on the Walk In My Shoes program. Partnership students learned about different disabilities by collaborating with each other and the library to research their disability area. Then they took that information and turned it into a carefully designed simulation of the disability that would allow people to see what it would feel like if they had a certain disability, keeping in mind strengths as well as struggles. They worked with the creator of Walk In My Shoes, a primarily elementary school level disability simulation program to create activities and questions for their simulations that would accurately depict the disability.

On December 4th the Partnership students ram their simulations for over 160 9th grade students! The students left feedback at the end of the program saying things like “Now I understand what people with different disabilities deal with every day” and “I learned we have to be kind to everyone and include everyone because we never know what someone is going through”.
